What ever happened to American Freedoms?

The United States of America and its potential best and most prominent citizens made the ultimate commitment to fighting in wars to protect the rights, liberties and freedoms of the world. The Bill of Rights and our Constitution provide us with the right to life, liberty and pursuit of justice. Yet, many Americans and their leaders seem to be more concerned about protecting only their own interests and political agendas than protecting all of the freedoms we enjoy. Unfortunately, particularly in recent times, we have been observing, polarization over the common good and an escalation in vitriol and apparently, prejudicial rhetoric, instead of protecting freedoms and liberties for all our citizens. Let's look at just a few examples of warning signs that we shouldn't ignore and/or ignore.

1. Freedom of the PressJust because a report opposes a particular conservative party position, statement, or program of any political leader does not mean it is fake news. In a politically motivated attempt to stir up, Trump made the unfortunate mistake of using fake news. His core supporters and followers use the slogan Fake News whenever any report is against him, etc. While there have been a few false reports, the majority of them were online and especially in Social Media. If one media outlet reports news consistently differently than almost all others, and citizens only look at reports they agree with it is not a good sign and/or omen for America's future.

2. Immigration When did America go from being the melting pot to being a nation of hatred, bigotry and prejudice? Nearly all Americans are a product of immigrants, but we are now experiencing an unprecedented period of hatred and bigotry that has never been seen before.

3. Separation between Church and State: While our citizens have the right to practice their religion, there are no national religions in the United States. America loses when so many politicians use their interpretations of the Bible to defend against our guaranteed rights and freedoms.

4. Women's Rights: The Supreme Court should consider laws in terms of their Constitutional conformity, etc., and not as political. For a Justice, the only criteria should be their legal scholarship and ethics and not their political positions and/or agendas. Our law gives women the right to choose what is best for them.

Tax reform.Trump made appeal to his supporters by promising that he would reform their tax system and implement tax cuts. This was in the best interest of the middle-class. According to most studies, only about 70% of these people will see a slight savings. For 8 years, corporations and the richest Americans will experience the greatest impact. The tax reform supporters have maintained that it would increase employment and other benefits, even though Trickle-down Economics has not worked in the past.

Politics versus policy/people:Senator Rand Paul gave a speech on the Senate floor, where he condemned his party members for not addressing deficits now while emphasizing them in the past. We have seen a new level of partisan politics in the last few years. Our national political leaders have achieved very little.

Is America Great or Greater? : Donald Trump's campaign slogan was Make America Great Again! This, in and of itself, indicates a level negativeness and rhetoric because it seems that we are no longer great! We should want our leaders to be more focused on making us better and improving the lives and conditions of all our citizens.

America's freedoms What has made America unique and better is its Constitution, which guarantees our freedoms! Fake news and attacking the media is a way to diminish us and limit our rights and freedoms.
